Terms of Service — ilmWriter

Version terms-2026-11-04

1. Who we are and agreeing to these terms

ilmWriter ("ilmWriter", "we", "us") is a book-writing workspace operated by [legal entity name, registered address]. "You" means the person using ilmWriter, or the organisation you sign up for.

By creating an account or using ilmWriter you agree to these Terms, the Subscription terms (/legal/subscription-terms) and our Privacy Policy (/legal/privacy). Book Design and Publishing partnership orders also have their own terms, which you accept when you order.

You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account. If you sign up for an organisation, you confirm you can bind it to these Terms.

2. What ilmWriter does

ilmWriter helps you plan, write, revise, design, export and promote a book. It includes writing coaches that generate suggestions, beta reader and endorser invitations, exports (PDF, DOCX, EPUB), book pages for readers, and tools to post to your own social media accounts.

Coach suggestions are generated automatically by third-party language models. They can be wrong, incomplete or similar to existing text. You decide what to use, and you are responsible for checking facts, quotations and originality before you publish.

We don't guarantee that your book will be accepted by any store or publisher, or that it will sell.

3. Your account

You sign in with Google or with a one-time email link. Keep access to that Google account and email secure; you are responsible for activity on your account.

Don't share your account. Beta readers, endorsers and collaborators get their own invitations.

Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone has accessed your account without permission.

4. Acceptable use

Don't use ilmWriter to: break the law; infringe anyone's copyright, trademark or privacy; publish content that is defamatory, hateful, sexually exploits minors or incites violence; send spam or messages to people who haven't agreed to receive them; impersonate anyone; or upload malware.

Don't scrape, overload or try to break into the service, get around plan limits or credit charges, resell access, or use the coaches to build a competing product.

When you connect LinkedIn, X, Facebook or Instagram, you must also follow that network's rules. You are the publisher of everything posted to your accounts.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. Where reasonable, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.

5. Your work belongs to you

You keep all rights to everything you write, upload or create in ilmWriter, including manuscripts, notes, research, covers and promotional material ("Your Content"). This includes text you accept from a coach suggestion, to the extent the law allows anyone to own it.

You give us a limited licence to store, process, copy and display Your Content only to run ilmWriter for you: for example, to save it, send it to a coach model when you ask for a suggestion, build your exports, show it to beta readers you invite, and post it where you tell us to. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backups kept for a short time (see the Data deletion page).

We don't use your manuscript to train our own models, and we don't sell it. The model providers we use process it only to return your result, under their business terms (see the Privacy Policy).

You confirm you have the rights to everything you upload, including images, quotes and other people's material.

6. Exporting your work

You can export your book at any time from Preview & Export (DOCX, PDF and EPUB, depending on your plan). After a paid plan ends you can still read and download your work.

7. Our platform

ilmWriter, its software, design, coach prompts and brand belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use it while your account is active. Feedback you send us may be used to improve the product without obligation to you.

8. Plans, payment and credits

Paid plans renew automatically until you cancel. Prices, credits, upgrades, downgrades, refunds and failed payments are explained in the Subscription terms (/legal/subscription-terms). Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your full card details.

Free Preview is free and limited to the features shown on the pricing page. We may change what Free Preview includes.

9. Third-party services

Some features depend on services we don't control, such as Google sign-in, social networks, Stripe, email delivery and model providers. Their own terms apply, and we aren't responsible for their outages or for changes they make to their services. If a network revokes access, posting to it may stop working.

10. Availability

We work to keep ilmWriter available and your work safe, but we don't promise uninterrupted service. We may need maintenance downtime, and we may change or remove features. If we remove a paid feature you rely on, we'll give reasonable notice where we can.

11. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, ilmWriter is provided "as is". We aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, lost sales or lost opportunities, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

12. Indemnity

If someone makes a claim against us because of Your Content or because you broke these Terms (for example, a copyright claim over material you uploaded), you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.

13. Ending your account

You can stop using ilmWriter and ask us to delete your account at any time (see /legal/data-deletion). Cancelling a paid plan is explained in the Subscription terms.

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these Terms, or where the law requires it. If we close your account for reasons other than a breach, we'll give you time to export your work first.

Sections 5 (licence for backups), 11, 12 and 14 continue after your account ends.

14. Disputes

Please contact us first at [email protected]; most problems can be fixed quickly.

These Terms are governed by the laws of [governing law], and disputes go to the courts of [jurisdiction]. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in and may bring a claim there.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. For important changes we'll tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before they apply. If you don't agree, you can cancel before the change applies. The version and date are shown at the top of this page.

16. General

If part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a right straight away doesn't mean we give it up. You may not transfer your account; we may transfer these Terms if ilmWriter is sold or reorganised, and your rights stay the same. These Terms, with the documents they mention, are the whole agreement between us about ilmWriter.
